About Nancy J. Hill

Artist's Statement:
Powerful paintings represent more than just reporting a likeness. As a painter of realism, I try to paint with accuracy while at the same time offer more than photographic detail.Using the oil paint in finely applied layers creates the result I prefer.I enjoy blending old master's techniques with contemporary art thought. In our high impact over-stimulated lives, I want my paintings to give reason to stop and face the intimacy of the natural things around us.

As a classic oil painter of the traditional school, I produce representational still life and figure compositions. I call upon my life experiences and professional studies in New York, Washington, D.C., Colorado and Maine to produce finely painted compositions blending bold realism with expressive brushwork. Although my paintings continue to concentrate on still life, I find a satisfying continuity with nature by incorporating fresh fruits, fish, vegetables, breads, and an occasional piece of my husband's pottery into thoughtful and captivating compositions.
